A Monarch Butterfly is always a treat to see. This one is getting ready to settle into a pink rose bush.
A walk in the mountains of Colorado often brings us to a grove of Aspen trees. This Aspen scene is in the summertime when the grass was green. A shaft of sunlight casts tree shadows and highlights the grass between the Aspens.
A red barn pops after a snow and particularly so when the sun comes out and bright blue skies overhead contrast with the landscape below. The barn and silo are located near LaPorte, CO (could be anywhere) and the horse inside the corral must be waiting on his breakfast!
What is more fun than to explore the Rocky Mountain high country! This backroad leading to Purgatory Village in southern CO (popular ski area) required a quick camera stop to catch the early morning light hitting the trunks of these extremely tall Aspen trees. What a quiet peaceful moment we enjoyed! While the road looks innocent for all types of vehicles, not so much toward the other end!
Yes, I've lived in mountain lion territory, but as an artist, or any human, they are not cooperative when it comes to posing for a painting! Thank goodness for a camera to help for future reference.
Having lived in the "high country" of CO for many years, the briskly cold winter nights with a full moon overhead really has stuck in my mind. So beautiful. I lived in a cabin similar to this...of course it had windows!
The Fall season brings many "leaf peepers" out to view, paint and photograph Colorado's beautiful Aspen trees and other Autumn colors in the mountain areas. This image is a painting of one of the scenes I loved.
This early morning scene stopped our car in its tracks so that I could record it on camera for a future painting. I attempted to depict the subtle hues of the sky being tinged with subtle colors that also spread across the valley and field near the barn. The horse was curious to know what was going on!
On a recent trip to the SE part of Colorado we explored several waterfalls in the beautiful mountains. Spring Creek Falls required a hike, but heavy snow run-off brought down waters that roared in our ears and demanded to be painted.
A very high narrow highway that everyone should take...though scary...is the Red Mountain Road going toward Durango, CO. This is a scene at the top of Red Mountain Pass. Springtime greens and distant mountains covered with mine tailings of the old Silver Boom era make the journey very worthwhile. This painting also depicts a typical spring day when red Indian Paintbrush are popping up in the high country Rockies.
"Sunrise Glow" speaks to a mix of warm and cools in in this portrayal of a wintery morning warmed by the light of day. Just when we feel that warmth of the sun, an instant chill hits as eyes fall to the deep blues of a very cold stream edged with ice.
Who doesn't like a beautiful Fall day warmed by the sun and the surrounding warm colors on an artist's palette?! Aspen are highlights of the year in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.
Cactus blossoms growing in a huge cluster are embedded within a rock formation. These blossoms beckon to be picked and returned home to a vase...but beware the prickly spines.
A typical Arizona desert scene depicts an early morning sunrise highlighting the Saguaros along a trail leading toward the mountains seen in the distance.
Depicts a winter scene in the high country of Colorado. An early morning catches a flight of birds seemingly headed south for the winter.
This Rocky Mountain range depicts an Autumn morning – as is obvious by colorful Aspen and creek-side shrubbery. Home to Black Bears, one can be spotted at water's edge – pausing for an early morning drink? Or is he fishing for breakfast?
From an artist's viewpoint, water and mountains are a favorite subject. Nature provides its own color palette and the rest is up to the Artist's interpretation.
A Bull Bison (aka Buffalo) rests at the head of a canyon in SD. The herd can also be seen below him.
This sunset overlooks a grain silo next to a barn and wheat field that's soon to be harvested.
As the sun is setting in the west, this "antique" wooden windmill backs up against an "anti-solar" skyscape to the east...an example of Wyoming's sunsets and typical rural landscapes.
A peaceful quiet evening at sunset speaks to the mood of this original painting. The Teton mountain range can be seen in the background of this Wyoming scene and the river's bend holds the reflected colors of the western sky.
